Am I A Child Of The West?

Hi Guys!

In class we were asked to write about whether we view ourselves as, "Children of the West". This is a very broad term open to interpretation, so I chose to answer this in a two part way. I view myself as a teen of the west, but not exactly a child of the west. Here, let me explain... I grew up for the first seven years as my life in Europe. I learned a lot about the environment and spent some of the most formative years of my life there. However, I feel the time you really become your own person is when you are a teen. You find out who you are, and what you want to be when you grow up.  I have grown up in America and have made so many important friends, learned a great education, and have fell in love with America. So, I guess I know where I'm from, but I have no idea where I'm going. I hope to live my life somewhere in America which has great opportunities, or I might go back to my roots of England and go back there. Overall, I am just happy to live in America and I will see where it takes me.

A Mask Can Speak a Thousand Words....

In school this week, we were assigned a project to create a mask and decorate both sides of it according to our personality. I personally really enjoyed this project and encourage everybody else to do this, since it really lets you find out more about yourself and your friends, and is a great way to be creative.

 From the front of my mask, it shows how others who don’t know me that well view me. The main color scheme is different tones of pinks and silvers, since I am unique and different, but still there is more under the surface. I chose to include a headdress embroidered with different pretty, neutral colors of flowers on the front of my mask; to represent how people see me as nice and friendly, but can be quiet. My mask has long pink eyelashes. This represents how people view me as loud and crazy with my friends, and how I love to try new things and be different. I have included a token on the corner of my mask that says, “Love”. I put this on my mask to show how I am loyal and am there to lean on. There is a large block with the letter A on it, for Anna. This block is from when I was a little girl, and I was using the blocks to teach myself the alphabet. I included this on the front of my mask to show how people see me as a hard worker with a drive to learn.

The back of my mask represents how I view myself. I used a vast array of different colors such as leopard print, orange, pink, yellow, blue, white, and some turquoise. When I moved from London England to America, I was so excited to be by the ocean. I bought a key chain of a large clown fish to symbolize how I view myself as very connected to the ocean, and how I love the environment in California. I included different buttons of sizes and designs, to show how I am passionate about fashion and love vintage things. I placed a large pug figurine in the center of my mask to show how I am crazy about everything to do with animals so I view myself as compassionate. I have traveled in many different continents, so I chose to add a key-chain from Las Vegas, which my friend bought for me. I love to surround myself with people who like to travel and our interested in the world around them. This shows how I view myself as cultured and into exploring new things. How people view you is important, but as one grows up it becomes clear that the much more important things about a person is going on underneath the surface of their personality.
